The Kensington section of Philadelphia is the Epicenter of the Heroin Epidemic for the East Coast. Several articles have been written on Kensington including The New York Times article from 2018 (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/10/magazine/kensington-heroin-opioid-philadelphia.html). A simple google search of Kensington, Philadelphia will result in 100’s of articles relating to the brokenness of this area.
Mike and Jess Roth made a conscious decision to enter into the brokenness of this area with the goal of “bringing HOPE to the community through Christ and His Church”.
By meeting the residents of Kensington where they are at in their lives, the Roths offer hope in the good news that can be found in Jesus. The Roths offer a ministry of presence by spending time, eating and living with the broken hearted, joining them in their sorrow and mourning in order to walk beside them and guide and direct them to the hope we have.
By working with the population of addicts we are hoping to break them free from the captivity of self medication. By opening our home and lives to the community we are hoping to be both Salt and Light to this neighborhood and to light a path which leads to eternal life.
What We Do
The Roths share their faith on a daily basis simply by living out the truth that is found in their faith. Mike and Jess work directly with broken families, drug addicts, prostitutes, criminals and sinners of all makes and models. If we read the new testament and see the people Jesus ministered to, ate with, walked with, then it’s not that different than what the Roths are currently doing.
How You Can Help
The Roths are missionally supported which means that any money that is raised by the Roths is used to minister in Philadelphia with a concentration on the Kensington section.
Prayer, mission support and direct contributions are greatly appreciated to help us continue having an impact on the people of Kensington.
